Information

It is a glacier located in the outskirts of Ushuaia, very close to the city.

It takes about 15 minutes by car to get to the access, following Marcos Zar Street. If you do not have your own vehicle, you can take a taxi and arrange the return with the driver.

The transports leave at the beginning of the path to the glacier. Depending on the time of the year, you can do different activities on the Martial Glacier:
- Summer (December to March): it takes about 40 minutes to walk to the glacier's viewpoint from where the transport leaves. All along the way you can see an excellent landscape, and at the end of the walk you will reach a place with an impressive view of the glacier. IMPORTANT: Be very careful, as the entire footpath is usually covered with snow and/or ice, and the ground is often slippery or brittle.
- Winter (June to September): there is a ski slope where snow activities take place. Check if the chairlift is in operation.

On the other hand, this whole place is excellent for bird watching. At the end of the path leading to the glacier, it is common to see the yellow-bridled finch (Melanodera xanthogramma), a species that is difficult to observe elsewhere. It is also possible to see the buff-winged cinclodes (Cinclodes fuscus), the black-chinned siskin (Spinus barbatus) and the dark-faced ground-tyrant (Muscisaxicola maclovianus).
