Cabo Blanco Absolute Nature Reserve

Information

It is a natural protected area that covers the southern tip of the Nicoya Peninsula. It was created in 1963, being the first in Costa Rica. It has a terrestrial and a marine part, and includes Cabo Blanco Island. It preserves its tropical forest and biodiversity.

The main entrance where most tourists arrive is 1 or 2 km south of the village of Cabuya. It has an administration where you pay an entrance fee and has a picnic area with tables and toilets. A 4.5 km trail starts right there, of moderate difficulty, which leads to a beach.

Some information of interest:
a) Ask if it is closed on any day of the week.
b) The nearest town is Cabuya, where there are some stores, restaurants and accommodation.
c) To get to Cabo Blanco:
- By car: from the town of Cóbano you go by dirt road to Montezuma, and there you take another road to Cabuya that ends at the entrance of the nature reserve.
- By bus: in the morning, buses leave from Montezuma and stop right at the entrance of the Cabo Blanco reserve. There is a bus to return in the afternoon, but it is advisable to ask the driver for the exact time of return (confirm this).
