Information

It is a tourist town located in the south of the Nicoya Peninsula, which belongs to the province of Puntarenas. It has grocery shops, restaurants, bars, accommodation and stalls offering different excursions.

It has its own dark sandy beach, which is usually very popular with tourists. Some very attractive wild birds can be seen here, such as the white-throated magpie-jay (Calocitta formosa).

In the surrounding area there are many attractions to visit:
- Montezuma Waterfalls: there are three waterfalls located 1 km from the locality, which can be reached by a route along the Montezuma River.
- Taking the road to Cabuya you can access different sectors of the coast, some of which have sandy beaches and others have only rocks.
- To the north there are several beaches, one after the other. They can be reached by walking along the sand and the short paths that separate them. After about 7 km you will reach the waterfall El Chorro, which is a fall over rocks that are in the sea.

Montezuma is also ideally situated to get to know other places in the south of the Nicoya Peninsula that are nearby. Heading east are the good beaches of Malpaís, Playa Carmen and Santa Teresa. And to the south is the Cabo Blanco Absolute Nature Reserve, an excellent protected area to spend a day in contact with nature.
