Information

This is a trail that leads to the laguna Esmeralda (like a lake), which is located near the city of Ushuaia.

The access to the trail is on National Route 3, about 19 km from Ushuaia. It is just before the entrance to Valle de los Lobos, where there is a small parking area.

From this access you have to walk for about 2 or 3 hours to get to the laguna (4 or 6 hours round trip), so it is recommended to be in good physical condition and to bring enough water and some food. The ideal is to start the walk early in the morning and take the whole day to do it comfortably.

IMPORTANT: It is advisable to wear high waterproof boots, as muddy spots are common. Be very careful in some sections that may be covered with ice and/or snow, as they may be slippery or brittle.

In one part of the route you will pass near a river with active beaver lodges, where you can see dams made by the animals in the watercourse. Beavers are difficult to see, however, as they are usually nocturnal animals.

When you get to the laguna Esmeralda, depending on the time of the year, you may find that it is frozen or not.
