Information

The city of Rio Grande has a long beach, with a pedestrian path that runs parallel to the coast and makes it an ideal place for walks by the sea.

This beach is within the boundaries of the Costa Atlantica reserve, which is a large protected area. There is an interpretation centre located by the shore (near the intersection of Route 3 and Muslov Street), where there are posters and explanations about the birds that frequent the area.

It is a good place to observe marine species. Among the most commonly seen birds are the magellanic oystercatcher (Haematopus leucopodus), snowy sheathbill (Chionis albus) and white-rumped sandpiper (Calidris fuscicollis). The whimbrel (Numenius phaeopus), which is a species not often seen in other parts of Argentina, is often recorded. From the beach it is common to see groups of southern giant petrel (Macronectes giganteus) at sea.
