San José

Information

It is a town in the province of Entre Ríos, located about 9 km from Colón. It has a tourist information office, accommodations, restaurants, grocery stores, an ATM and a petrol station.

Its main attraction is its historic center, located around its main square Justo José de Urquiza. There you can visit the Regional Historical Museum, which in one section provides information about the immigrants who arrived in the province through an agreement with former president Urquiza and founded San José, while another section features exhibitions about the origins of the town.

About 4 km from the main square, heading toward the rural area in a southeasterly direction, you will find the Molino Forclaz (Forclaz Mill), which currently operates as a provincial museum. It was built toward the end of the 19th century by a Swiss immigrant and is about 12 meters high. It has the particularity that it could not be used for productive purposes, since it operated with strong winds and there was not enough wind in the area.

The Balneario Camping is located 6 km away, on the banks of the Uruguay River. It is an excellent place to spend the day, as it has a recreational area with beaches and a camping area.

To get to San José:
— By bus: it has a bus terminal with parking, a cafeteria and restrooms. Direct public transportation arrives from the cities of Buenos Aires, Córdoba, La Plata, Rosario and Santa Fe, as well as from other towns in Entre Ríos such as Colón, Concepción del Uruguay, Concordia, Gualeguaychú, Paraná and Villa Elisa. There is a bus that travels back and forth several times a day from this terminal to Balneario Camping.
— By car: you can get there via National Route 14, which connects it with the main towns in eastern Entre Ríos.
