Calilegua National Park

Information

It is a natural protected area in the province of Jujuy. It occupies some 76036 hectares comprised within the Yungas ecoregion, which in fact are within the vast Yungas Biosphere Reserve. When you visit it, you can appreciate a jungle and mountainous landscape with streams.

It is undoubtedly the great park to get to know this ecoregion, both for the great number of wildlife species and for the facilities to visit it. Provincial Route 83 crosses it and from there you can access its viewpoints, different trails and its two sections:
- Sectional Aguas Negras: it has a recreation area. There is a camping site with bonfires, toilets and cold water showers (bear in mind that there is no electricity).
- Sectional Mesada de las Colmenas: it is in a higher part of the park. It also has a recreation area.

To get to Calilegua National Park:
- By bus: there is a bus that crosses the park every day to make the route Libertador General San Martín-Calilegua National Park-San Francisco-Valle Grande. In the morning it comes from Libertador General San Martín and in the afternoon it makes the return trip from Valle Grande and San Francisco (schedules must be confirmed).
- By car: along the gravel Provincial Route 83 to the Aguas Negras recreational area, it is about 8 km from the access to Libertador General San Martín and 37 km from the town of San Francisco. Bear in mind that in rainy seasons it can be difficult to drive through it.
