Wildlife Watching in Calilegua National Park

Information

The Calilegua National Park is ideal for wildlife watching, as it belongs to the Yungas ecoregion, which is rich in biodiversity. Besides, it has several trails that allow you to walk through it and access its different environments.

As a guide, I am going to mention some species that are frequently seen:
- The Central American agouti (Dasyprocta punctata) always appears at the campsite of the recreational area of the Aguas Negras section, in full view of all visitors. And at night the tapeti (Sylvilagus brasiliensis) comes out along the access road.
- The tayra (Eira barbara) is frequently recorded along the Aguas Negras Stream.
- Along the trails you should pay attention to the trees, as sightings of the Bolivian squirrel (Sciurus ignitus) and the Azara's capuchin (Sapajus cay) are common.

It is worth mentioning that the jaguar (Panthera onca), the largest feline in America, lives and has been recorded in this park.
