Information
It is a large expanse of salt located in the Puna Jujuy, above 3400 metres above sea level.
To get there, it is 64 kilometres from the locality of Purmamarca along the paved National Route 52. The route is a real walk where you can see beautiful landscapes. At one point you pass through the Cuesta de Lipán (a slope), which has a stretch of corniche with viewpoints that allow you to see how the road winds its way uphill, and when you pass the maximum height there is a monolith that marks 4170 metres above sea level.
Road 52 finally arrives and crosses the salt surface, where you can see mounds from mining activity. There are a couple of places with parking, and in one of them there is a stand built entirely of salt where they sell handicrafts made of this material.
There are people on the site who offer entry to the salt flats, which must be done with a guide. There are options of renting bicycles or driving your own vehicle, always following whoever leads the excursion. During the tour you can see pools and they explain the process of salt extraction for consumption.
