La Florida Dam

Information

La Florida is a dam located in the province of San Luis in Argentina. Its tributaries are the Grande and Trapiche rivers, and its outflow is the Quinto River which originates there. It lies in a mountainous setting, roughly in the area where the Sierras of San Luis (a montain range) begin to fade eventually giving way to the plains toward the southeast.

It is located on the outskirts of the tourist town of El Trapiche, and can be reached via a short paved road. On its shores a small village developed that shares its name (La Florida), where there are accommodations and shops.

It is an ideal attraction to dedicate a full day to, as there is plenty to see and also places to stop and enjoy. The entire perimeter can be traveled along different roads that are fully paved. This makes it possible to take a leisurely drive, with various parking areas and panoramic viewpoints that are perfect for exploring the reservoir and taking souvenir photos. Part of the driving route crosses its impressive dam wall.

You'll find several spots with access to the water, areas to spend the day and designated swimming zones. There are also places where water sports like kayaking and windsurfing can be practiced.
