El Trapiche

Information

It is a tourist locality situated in the province of San Luis, in a place where the flat area is left behind and the mountains begin. It usually receives a great number of tourists in the months of January and February, and some long weekends (such as Holy Week).

It has a large number of accommodations, including hotels, cabins and camping sites. Its tourist information office is on Route 9, before entering the locality coming from the south. It has supermarkets, petrol station and ATM.

To get there by car, the access road is the paved Provincial Route 9. And by bus, public transportation comes daily from the city of San Luis and also from La Carolina.

Its main attraction is the Trapiche River, which has transparent water and its depth is usually shallow, although this depends on the season. When it passes through the town, the river is crossed by different bridges and has several points where tourists can access its shore.

Other attractions located in its outskirts or at a short distance are:
- Siete Cajones: they are natural pools enclosed by big rocks, on the course of the Grande River.
- La Florida Dam: there are places to go to the water and practice nautical sports.
- Antonio Esteban Agüero Dam: it has viewpoints and picnic sites in the first stretch of the Grande River that comes out of the reservoir.
- Riocito: it is a small populated area where there is a recreational area with a river of crystalline water.
- Paso del Rey: it is a place where the ruins of a Jesuit chapel from the 17th century are located.
