Antonio Esteban Agüero Dam

Information

It is a dam located in the province of San Luis, along the course of the Grande River which feeds into the reservoir and continues downstream from it. It is surrounded by a natural and mountainous landscape. The village of Río Grande is nearby and El Trapiche is also relatively close.

To reach the dam, an asphalt road branches off Provincial Route 9 and heads west. After about 800 meters it passes over the dam. This road crosses the dam wall and has viewpoints offering good panoramic views of the reservoir and different stretches of the Grande River. It then continues along a scenic mountain route for 45 km to the Nogolí Reservoir. It is worth mentioning that completing the entire route to Nogolí is an excellent way to enjoy a leisurely drive and explore Sierras de San Luis (a mountain range).

Along the first stretch of the Grande River downstream from the dam, there are picnic areas and access points to the river where you can enjoy excellent views of the spillway from a distance. However, it is important to keep in mind that reaching these spots along the river requires taking a secondary dirt road with many forks, so it is best to bring a GPS with maps downloaded in advance.
