Information

It is a hill located near the centre of the tourist town of El Bolsón, in the Argentinean province of Río Negro. It has a white cross on its summit, and for this reason it is also called or appears in some quotations as Cerro or Cerrito La Cruz. The place is protected and is a municipal reserve that preserves its Andean forest.

To get there, from the intersection of Belgrano Avenue and Pastorino Street there is a gravel road called Subida de la Cruz. It is 1.2 kilometres until you reach a car park, where the main entrance is situated. The time I was there, there were mobile toilets and security.

From the entrance there are two trails, both of which have uphill sections. The one on the left is short and leads to the southern viewpoint where you can see the area that joins El Bolsón with the locality of Lago Puelo in the province of Chubut. The one on the right forks again: the new path on the right leads to the north viewpoint, and the one on the left goes to the top where the cross is located and where there is a wooden base with a view of the city.
