Punta Mejillón or Pozo Salado

Punta Mejillón (also known as Pozo Salado) is a beach and camping area located along the scenic Ruta de los Acantilados or Camino de la Costa, in the Argentine province of Río Negro. It is part of a broader protected natural area called Caleta de los Loros. The site is very far from any urban center: the small village of San Antonio Este is 75 km away, the town of San Antonio Oeste is 120 km away and the beach destination of El Cóndor is 122 km away.

The beach is wide, with a compact sandy surface that lies at the foot of towering cliffs. It's a rugged environment, ideal for those looking to disconnect and explore quiet and remote natural spots. Occasionally a campsite operates there, but if you plan to stay for a few hours it's recommended to bring everything you might need such as water, food, warm clothing and other basic items.

Access is via Provincial Route 1 which alternates between gravel and dirt sections. About 122 km from El Cóndor a secondary road branches off, and after roughly 5 km it leads directly to the site. It's important to note that some parts of the route can be tricky due to sand accumulation, so it's best to go with high-clearance vehicles and preferably 4x4.

Caution: In the surrounding area there are zones that become submerged or exposed depending on the tide. That's why it's essential to pay attention to the terrain and avoid walkig or driving through areas that might flood or be soft enough to sink into.
