Information

Near the locality of Tulum there are several cenotes of different characteristics.

On the Route 109 that links Tulum-Cobá:
a) Cenote Calavera: it is about 2.5 km from Tulum. It is an open type cenote.
b) Grand Cenote: it is 4.5 km away. It is an open type with a tunnel.

On Route 307 towards Muyil (to the south):
a) Cenote Cristal: it is 5 km from Tulum. It is an open type cenote.
b) Cenote Escondido: it is 5 km from Tulum. The access is in front of Cenote Cristal, in fact you pay the entrance ticket at the ticket office of Cenote Cristal. It is open, which being long is good for swimming with a snorkel.
c) Laguna Kaan Luum (like a lake or lagoon): the access is 11 km away from Tulum. It is a really spectacular lagoon, a crystal clear blue body of water. It is ideal for snorkelling, since it has a pier that enters the water. It has a cenote inside it, which can be seen from afar as a dark shadow in the water (when I went there it was not allowed to go into the cenote, which was fenced off). There is a hut with tables for those who bring their food and drinks.
d) Cenote Angelita: it is 16 km away. It is open and deep, especially for diving.

IMPORTANT: Always remember that if you are going to use sunscreen, you must use a biodegradable one so as not to contaminate the water of the cenote.
