Information

It is a locality in the west of the province of Tucumán. It is located in the Tafi Valley, at the foot of the Cerro Ñuñorco (a hill) and on the shores of the La Angostura Dam, where the El Mollar River flows into.

It has infrastructure for visitors such as a tourist information office, lodging, restaurants, many shops, an ATM and just at the exit there is a petrol station. Something to take into account is that in the neighbouring locality of Tafí del Valle, which is 11 km away, you can find some services that are missing.

In the urban area there are several tourist attractions. One of them is the shore of the reservoir where there is a green space to walk around, with panoramic views of the body of water and the town surrounded by mountains. Undoubtedly, it is a must to visit the archaeological reserve Los Menhires, where you can appreciate lithic sculptures called Menhires that correspond to the original Tafí culture.

To get to El Mollar with your own vehicle, you have to consider that whether you are coming from the north or from the south, it takes time because you have to drive through winding roads with ascents and descents. If you are coming from the north, you have to cross a mountain pass called El Infiernillo, which in a moment takes you over 3000 metres above sea level. And if you are coming from the south, you have to drive through the Quebrada de Los Sosa (a ravine), where the road winds parallel to the river of the same name.

There are buses that go to El Mollar from Amaicha del Valle, Cafayate, Colalao del Valle, San Miguel de Tucumán, Santa María and Tafí del Valle.
