Information

This city is the capital of Arica y Parinacota, which is the northernmost region of Chile.

It has services such as stores, petrol stations, ATMs, car rentals, restaurants and hotels.

It is located on the seashore, and has a pedestrian path with which you can get to know the coast and its attractions:
- Exisla del Alacrán (Ex Alacrán Island): it was formerly an island where there was a prison and then a fort. In 1965 the road that currently joins it to the coast was built, so it ceased to be an island and became a peninsula.
- Port: you can visit it, it is a place where fresh fish is sold. It is a spectacle the pelicans and sea lions that approach the area to feed on the remains of fish. For birdwatchers, this is a site where the guanay cormorant (Leucocarbo bougainvilliorum, an endangered species) is frequently seen.
- Morro de Arica: it is a hill located in front of the coast. At its top there is a large balcony from where you have a panoramic view of the city and the sea. There is also a parking lot and a museum at the top. It can be climbed by car taking the continuation of Santo Domingo Street, or also on foot walking along a trail of about 400 meters that leaves from where Cristóbal Colón Street ends.
