Puna of Jujuy

This circuit includes the Jujuy part of the Puna, which is a high mountain plateau in a wide area of the Andes Mountains.

It can be travelled through and thus access to several localities and attractions:
- The towns of Cusi Cusi, Rinconada and Santa Catalina are recommended for those who want to go deep into the puna, see its attractions and learn about the customs of its inhabitants. The town of Yavi has a museum and is an outstanding destination for bird watching in the region.
- The Salinas Grandes (a salt flat) is a classic for tourists, who come to appreciate the huge expanse of salt and some of the structures made with this material.
- The Laguna de los Pozuelos Natural Monument is a protected area where you can observe vicunas and Puna birds. The colourful flamingoes are a striking sight, since the laguna (a swallon lake) is home to all three species of flamingos that exist in the country.

Regarding when to go, it is recommended to avoid the summer months (December to March), which is the time when some rains occur and can complicate certain roads and streams. On the other hand, in the winter, although the days are clearer, temperatures can be very low at times (especially at night).

A precaution to take into account when visiting the Puna, which is at high altitude, is to stay hydrated at all times and avoid heavy physical exertion and alcohol consumption. IMPORTANT: for more information on these health issues, we recommend you to consult a doctor.
